Why is writing important?

The reason why we are publishing our newspaper online is so we can save paper, and save money instead of paying for all of the paper needed for a printed newspaper. We want to find out if more people would view our website more than a printed website. When you practice your writing skills, it helps you out a lot in the future. When you go to college, you are going to have to write a lot of papers and this class willl really help you out because it will prepare you. Good writing skills make you look, and sound professional as well, and that is good when trying to get into a good college or when trying to get a good job. Another thing that writing can do is change the way people think of something, or change their views of something. Believe it or not but people really do listen to what other people have to say if it's something important. Something that I would like to talk about or get through to people is advice on teen life and the sress and struggles that we go through. Parents and other adults always seem to think that just because we are young we have nothing to worry about or nothing to stress about. We have a lot more on our shoulders than they can even imagine, and that is something I'd like to get through to people.

How Parents Affect Teens Emotionally

Parents are one of the most stressful things in life for a teen. Most teens just want space and trust from their parents. But their are teens who want MORE than just that from their parents. For example, my mom has always been there for me advice wise, and shes always understood, and trusted me and gave me money when I needed it. All that stuff is important for a good relationship between parents and thier kids. But there is ONLY one thing that i wish my mom would do for me and understand why i want that. All i ever ask my mom for is to stop drinking. That is the ONLY thing i ever wish for in my life. She can never do that for me though. It hurts me more than she can ever imagine, and she just cant see or understand that. As for my dad, he has no trust in me AT ALL. He's my father and he doesnt know one thing about me, he never tries to talk to me about anything like a real father is supposed to do. He's always been there for me as a father, hes kept a roof over my head, fed me, bought me my cothes and anything i need, and I thank him so much for that. But i just wish that he would be there for me when I'm hurting, struggling, or just need somebody to talk to. As for a friend of mine as another example, she has one of the worst relationships with her mother. Its not because she wnats that, its just that her mother has never really been there for her to understand her and her feelings. Her father was never there for her preiod. So she expected her mom to be the one to love her and understand her NO MATTER WHAT. Her mother never trusts her, she never understands her, and she never listens or cares about what she has to say. All of these things mean more to us than our parents even realize. They hurt us so bad that they don't even try to hear us out, or even change for the sake of their children. To have parents like that, is one of the most painful things anyone could ever have. It builds anger and pain inside of you that will never go away. But we put up with them, help them, and we're always there for them when they need us because we love them regardless.

TRUE LOVE

LOVE is probably one of the biggest struggles you will ever go through in life. Just to find that special someone is the most hardest thing possible. But once you find that person, the struggles get even harder. You will go through so many phases, arguments, differences, expectations, and worst of all PAIN. There will be times where you feel you want to just give up and that its not worth the pain, but you cant let it bring you down. If its true love you will do whatever it takes and be strong to keep the relationship solid. Love is one of the most painful things to experience because as you grow older you get heartbroken, and you break hearts yourself, but it only makes you stronger because you learn what love should really be like. And if all you can do is give up, than you will never find TRUE LOVE.

This I Believe

I believe that words can hurt so much more than actions. The scars of someone hitting you or beating you will eventually go away, but the painful words of a loved one can scar your heart forever. Even if those words were not meant to be spoken, it hurts 10 times more than a hit. I grew up in a life of alcohol, arguing, seperation, and depression. Although neither one of my parents has ever intentionally tried to hurt me, they've hurt me in ways that they dont even realize.

There were so many days where my mom was drunk and said some of the most hurtful things possible to me, but never put her hands on me. Honestly, I would have rather her hit me in the face than hear those words come out from her mouth. Things like "I hate you", "go live with your father", "you bitch", "your the reason for all my problems" and so much more. Those scars will forever stay in my heart and I will never forget the things she has said to me. It made me feel alone, unloved, and unwanted. I don't think a hit can ever make someone feel that bad.

There was also a time where my dad had gone through a huge break up and was depressed to the point where he didnt care about anything anymore. I overheard him talking to my grandma one day. Ive never felt so worthless after I heard the words that came out of my dad's mouth. He told my grandma that everything he had ever worked for was worthless and he didn't care about anything or anybody anymore. I felt so bad after that because I felt like my dad didn't love me or realize that I was still actually in his life. Those scars will never go away.So when people say that words cant hurt more than physical actions, I disagree because I know what it feels like to hear the most hurtful things come from the people I love the most. I don't think any hit can even compare to the pain that words can cause to someone's heart. I still remember every word that ever came out of my parents' mouths and I guarantee that I will never forget them. Words are something that will follow you your whole life and no matter what you do to try to forget them, they will ALWAYS be there in your head reminding you ervey single day.

Web 2.0

Web 2.0 has changed my life COMPLETELY! It has kept me in touch with people that I have seen or talked to in years. I have been reiunited with old friends, and even family members that I have never met before. It has taught me more about writing and web designing and html coding. It will continue to change everyone's life because it will keep getting better and better. Eventually, it will have way better technology and programs. Web 2.0 will have a HUGE impact on media because that is how people spread news and write about issues going on in the world. People write blogs and articles online so everyone else can see what is going on, and see what other people have to say about certain issues. I believe that the web will become even more huge and popular than it already is.

The World is Ready For Change

As we all now know, Barack Obama was elected president of the United States on Tuesday, November 4, 2008. Personally, I was really happy when I watched the news and they announced that Barack Obama won the election. I knew from the very beginning that Obama was going to win because the whole country knows that it is now time for a change. I am honored to have Barack Obama as president because I know that he will bring our country back together and he will make a change. I trust every word that comes out of his mouth and I know he will follow through. When he makes a speech, its so powerful because its original and he really has a way with words. I think that Obama will make a change and make this country a way better place, and he will actually listen to the thoughts and concerns of his people. For the world, Obama has made HISTORY. He is the First african american president of the United States and that will be in history books forever! This election has been a very emotional election for the people of America. People have been waiting for years for something like this to happen, for something as important as this, and most of all, for change.

The Most Important Factor For Reporting

I think that the main factor for reporting or media is finding true facts and information. I agree with this because without true facts and information you won't have a true story to show the world. You can't just think something is true, you have to know FOR SURE that it is the truth, otherwise you'll be telling people a false story and false facts. In order to find true facts, you have to dig down deep, interview people, and do a lot of research. You can't just make anything up.

Should same sex marriage be legalized or banned?

Same sex marriage should be legalized. I believe that everyone should have equal rights and be treated equally as individuals. I think that it is wrong to try and segregate gay people as if they weren't human or something. They are normal people just like everybody else, and they deserve to be treated the same way as everyone else. They deserve to love and marry who ever they want no matter what, just like everybody else. The first amendment states the freedom of speech, religion, and assembly. Why can't gay people have the freedom to say and feel what they want? It's wrong to discriminate and try to exclude people just because they don't believe in the same things as most people do. I don't believe that it is fair for those people who want to marry the one that they love, but can't becuase they are afraid of this discriminatory world. I don't see why it is such a big issue for people that people want to get married with the same sex. It's not like their bothering them in any kind of way. My main point is that it is VERY wrong and unfair to ban same sex marriage. So when you vote, I encourage you to vote NO on prop 8.

Junior Class President Election

I think Dominique Commer would be best as Junior class president because she is loyal, trustworthy, and she sticks by her word. If she says that she will do something, she will definitely do it. I have known Dominique since the sixth grade and i know that she can be trusted and she is a great leader. She knows how to take control and she listens to the voices of the students. She doesn't only care about what she wants, but also what the students want. She is very intelligent, and always knows what she is doing.

The First Amendment

The First Amendment is the freedom to express what we feel in any way we desire. This amendment is what affects every single individual in this country. The amendment is what allows the people of our country to speak what is on their minds, their ideas, and their thoughts. It also allows us to believe, worship, and practice any religion we please. There are many other countries in this world that don't have a choice in religion, and don't have a right to speak what is on their mind. That is why many people from other countries come to our country, so they can FREE. That is why we are called "the land of the free," because we the people are free to express ourselves to make this country a better place.

Burton Cafeteria

I sat in the cafeteria at lunch and observed the people around me. As the students eat their lunch, they also use their time to socialize with their friends. The cafeteria gets very loud at lunch time, because the students get so riled up and excited about finally being out of class for at least an hour, that they can't help but yell and be loud. I watched as some students talked and laughed with their friends, and others sat quietly eating their lunch or doing their homework. The lunch lines get very crowded as the students push their way through to get their food. As you look around, you see all different types of races togther, or split into groups. Either way, everybody gets along and has a good time.

Hell's Angels Leader found dead in San Francisco Neighborhood

The residents in San Francisco's mission neighborhood were terrified after the SFPD found a dead body in the area. They identified him as 46-year-old Mark Guardado, a leader of the Hell's Angels motorcycle club. Guardado was reported shot around 10:30pm outside a bar on 24th and Treat Ave. Guardado was recently faced with criminal charges in connection to a fight in Petaluma last February. On February 10th, Guardado and the vice president of the Hell's Angels club, Jonathon Nelson, got into a fight in Petaluma with a patron at a Dining House. Apparently, the patron was knocked out in the fight. Guardado and Nelson were both arrested of assault with great bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, and gang enhancements. They were both released on bail. Police were investigating reports that Guardado was shot by a member of the Mongols, a rivalry motorcycle club. The Mongols and the Hell's Angels got into a big fight six years ago in Nevada. Police say they will continue to patrol the area and reassure the residents they will remain safe.

Obama Places Hurricane Over Politics

Democratic nominee, Barack Obama pushed thousands of supporters to donate to the Red Cross to help the victims of Hurricane Gustav. Obama pushed back the labor day speeches to focus on the Hurricane incident. "Instead of a speech, what I'd like to do is ask all of us to join in some silent prayer for all those who are spending this labor day in a shelter waiting for another storm to pass," Obama stated at an outdoor rally. "There's a time for us to argue politics, but there's a time for us to come together as Americans," Obama also stated. Obama e-mailed and text messaged thousands of supporters asking to donate whatever they can afford to the Red Cross so they have enough resources to help the victims of Hurricane Gustav.
